About SXAU

Shanxi Agricultural University (SXAU), with 110-year long history, was originally known as Mingxian School and founded in 1907 by Kong Xiangxi (Kung Hsiang-his / H. H. Kung). In 1916, pre-university courses were added. Agricultural and engineering disciplines were established in 1928 and 1931. After the Double-Seven Incident in 1937, the school was forced to head south for running, and it arrived at Jintang County, Sichuan Province in 1939. In 1940 it developed into Private Ming Hsien School of Agriculture and Technology, renamed Private Ming Hsien College in 1943 and upgraded its junior college to undergraduate college. The departments have been enlarged from 3 to 8, namely, Agronomy, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Agricultural Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Business Administration and Banking. In 1947, Private Ming Hsien College moved from Jintang County to Chengdu (capital city of Sichuan Province). After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Private Ming Hsien College moved back to the former site in Taigu, Jinzhong, Shanxi in November 1950.

On October 1, 1951, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government took over Private Ming Hsien College and changed it from private to public and formally set it up as Shanxi Agricultural College. In 1971, Shanxi Agricultural Labor University was merged with Shanxi Agricultural College. In 1975, three branch agricultural colleges, Dazhai, Yanbei, and Yuncheng were established at Xiyang County, Yanbei County, and Yuncheng City. On July 27, 1979, with the approval of the State Council, Dazhai Agricultural College was merged with Shanxi Agricultural College. In the same year, it was renamed Shanxi Agricultural University and listed as a national key university.

Since then, the People's Government of Shanxi Province approved of revoking Yanbei and Yuncheng Agricultural Colleges and merging them into Shanxi Agricultural University. In October 2019, Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and Government decided to merge the Shanxi Agricultural University with the Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences into a new Shanxi Agricultural University.
